storybook theatre: stories that sing

Storybook Theatre: Stories That Sing! are smaller-scale shows that are performed all around New York City - we come to you!

With several productions currently in our traveling repertoire, they're perfect for schools, community centers, or daycare/nursery facilities. Although we recommend these shows, which include a storyteller/puppeteer and a musician, for intimate settings like classrooms, libraries and playrooms, we also can accommodate and fully engage up to 80 children in a cafeteria, gym or auditorium.

HOW THE TURTLE GOT ITS SHELL

How the Turtle Got Its Shell is an African folktale.  Drumming, rhythm, movement, and chanting all help set the scene for this witty and wise traditional tale of the little turtle who outwits the fierce leopard and is rewarded with a shell. In the opening of the show, the drummer introduces the African instruments and various words from African languages. The energy and spirit of our drummer is clearly contagious, and the entire audience is soon singing and clapping along. Renowned African percussionist Chief Neil Clarke tells the story with his drums. (There are no puppets in this production.)

Recommended for Pre-K-5th grade. Available as an in-person Storybook Theatre or virtually.
